Precision Holes Through
Any Building Material

GeoPrime Solutions are capable of drilling cores from 25mm to 300mm in diameter through most building materials including concrete, brick and stone. Using diamond-tipped drill bits, we produce clean, precise holes with minimal damage to surrounding structure.

Coring can be undertaken in very small spaces — including domestic properties and occupied buildings — without leaving a significant mess. The water-cooled diamond drilling process is significantly quieter and less disruptive than percussive breaking methods, making it suitable for sensitive environments.

This is a common method used by electricians, builders and plumbers to provide access holes for pipework and cables. It provides less risk to structures than traditional percussive drills, as the diamond bit removes material by grinding rather than by impact, eliminating the vibration and shock loading that can cause cracking.

We can core through reinforced and unreinforced concrete, brick, stone, blockwork and most other masonry materials. Where existing reinforcement is present, we can advise on the safest coring approach.

Suitable For
  • Electrical conduit penetrations
  • Plumbing pipework holes
  • HVAC duct penetrations
  • Cable management routes
  • Drainage penetrations
  • Concrete, brick & stone
  • Reinforced concrete structures
  • Domestic & commercial properties
CORE
The Process

How Core Drilling Works

01
Location & Setup
The core location is agreed and marked. The drill rig is anchored securely to the surface using vacuum anchors or bolt fixings. Water supply is connected to cool the diamond bit during drilling.
02
Drilling
The diamond-tipped core barrel is rotated into the material at a controlled rate. Water is continuously fed to the bit to cool it and flush cuttings from the hole, producing a clean, precise bore.
03
Core Extraction
On reaching the required depth, the core plug is broken and extracted from the barrel. The hole is flushed clean and inspected. The core plug is removed from site or retained as required.
04
Clean Up
The work area is left clean and tidy. Water slurry generated during drilling is collected and disposed of appropriately. We work hard to minimise disruption to the surrounding area.
Applications

Where Coring
is Used

Electrical
Conduit and cable penetrations through concrete floors, walls and ceilings for electrical installation work.
Plumbing
Pipework penetrations for water supply, drainage and heating systems through masonry and concrete structures.
HVAC
Large diameter duct penetrations through walls and floors for ventilation, air conditioning and extract systems.
Commercial
Service penetrations through reinforced concrete structures in commercial and industrial buildings during fit-out and refurbishment.
Domestic
Neat, precise holes for extensions, conversions and improvements in residential properties — minimal mess and disruption.
Infrastructure
Core drilling through bridge decks, retaining walls and other civil structures for inspection, monitoring and service installation.

Diamond core drilling — the cleanest, safest way to create precise openings through any building material.

Why Choose Us

Why GeoPrime for Coring

Safer for Structures
Diamond core drilling carries significantly less risk to surrounding structures than traditional percussive methods. No vibration, no shock loading, no risk of cracking adjacent material.
Minimal Disruption
We can work in occupied buildings, domestic properties and sensitive environments. Water-cooled drilling is quieter and cleaner than alternative methods, with minimal impact on surrounding areas.
Precise Results
Diamond drilling produces clean, accurate holes to the exact diameter required. No rough edges, no overbreak — just a precise opening that's ready to use immediately.
Common Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

Core drilling creates circular holes through building materials using a diamond-tipped drill bit. It produces clean, precise holes with minimal damage to surrounding material and is much safer for structures than percussive breaking.
We can drill cores from 25mm to 300mm in diameter through most building materials including concrete, brick and stone.
Yes — coring can be carried out in very confined spaces including domestic properties and occupied buildings without significant mess or disruption.
Yes. Core drilling carries significantly less risk to surrounding structures. The diamond bit removes material by grinding rather than impact, eliminating the vibration that can cause cracking in adjacent material.
Yes. Diamond core drilling can penetrate reinforced concrete. We can advise on the most appropriate approach where reinforcement is present, including the use of GPR scanning to locate reinforcement prior to drilling.
